Revealing our Home Organization Transformation with the team at Clean Slate.
From overwhelmed by lack of systems and overflowing with stuff to room to breathe and space to create, connect and curate our life. This year, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Kristen and Alison from Clean Slate, a dynamic home organizing duo, to create engaging social media content and short-form videos that tell their brand story.
As an added bonus, I got to experience their incredible organizational magic firsthand. Over several months, we tackled some of the biggest trouble spots in my home, transforming them into functional, clutter-free spaces. This home organization transformation not only improved our daily life but also inspired a deeper appreciation for thoughtful systems.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at our journey and how it’s changed our home.
A Shared Vision for Home Organization Transformation
Kristen and Alison, the powerhouse team behind Clean Slate, are moms of nine kids between them and true MacGyvers of storage solutions. Their ability to create systems that stick, even for busy families, is nothing short of genius.
Our collaboration began with a professional goal: to create content for Clean Slate that would showcase their work and help them connect with their audience. But as someone who thrives on order — yet struggles with the visual clutter of everyday life — I couldn’t resist hiring them to help me tackle four key areas in my own home.
The Home Office Overhaul
The home office was the first target in our home organization transformation. It was overflowing with “rando piles” of cords, electronics, and miscellaneous items that had no clear home. Kristen and Alison helped me sift through everything, purge what wasn’t needed, and reorganize my IKEA shelving into dedicated zones for what remained.
In just a four-hour session, we cleared the space, consolidated items into the basement, and implemented a system that was easy to maintain. At the end of the session, Clean Slate even hauled away donations and electronics for proper disposal.
The impact was immediate. Suddenly, my workspace felt lighter and more inspiring — a win for both productivity and peace of mind.
Transforming the Kitchen Drop Zone
Next, we moved to our kitchen drop zone, the command central of our home. This area, where everything from paperwork to hair supplies tends to pile up, desperately needed a streamlined system as part of our home organization transformation.
Kristen and Alison took everything out, then re-zoned the space with simple, white bins to store frequently used items. For example, one bin holds my daughter’s hair supplies; another is for miscellaneous items. Larger file bins are dedicated to incoming paperwork and magazines.
We purged our liquor and glass collection and kept only the best — rehoming the rest to another area of our home. Clean Slate checked expiration dates all on the medicines, sorted & labeled phone and tablet cables, and labeled all of the new bins so that we could easily find, see and use our most frequently used items. I LOVE that they used these photo organizers for cord storage! It was an ingenious solution!
Seriously, their systems have been a game-changer in our drop zone area! This clean, unified look of the bins has helped to minimize visual clutter, and the system itself has made it much easier to process the constant influx of “stuff” in our daily lives.
The Photo Gear and Game Closet
This multi-purpose closet was a true challenge:
How do you store photography equipment and board games in the same space without creating chaos?
We started by purging items we no longer needed and implementing a clever system for organizing both.
One tip I love is the “lost pieces” bin — a small catch-all for stray puzzle pieces and game parts. Now, when we find a random piece, it goes into the bin and gets reunited with its game later.
During this project, I also captured the process on video as part of Clean Slate’s branding content.
Watch the start-to-finish transformation of this space — it’s a great example of how I’ve been helping clients tell their stories through content creation this year.
Revitalizing the Hot Tub Storage Room
The final project in our home organization transformation was a bonus storage room off our living space, which also has an exterior door leading to our new hot tub. This room had become a catch-all for “stuff” we didn’t know where else to put.
Initially, our plan was to refresh the shelving and lighting, but with the arrival of our new puppy, we decided to go all-in. We replaced the flooring, repainted the space, and added custom shelving to store hot tub supplies, towels, and dog essentials.
The result is a highly functional, aesthetically pleasing room that we no longer hide behind closed doors. It’s become a space we actually enjoy using, and it has dramatically improved the flow of our home.
Reflecting on Our Home Organization Transformation
This project was about more than just decluttering. It was about creating systems that work for our family and give us back precious time and mental space.
We have taken what we learned with working with professional home organizers and have continued to tackle other areas of our home including the mudroom entrance and kids bedrooms. My favorite was finally figuring out what to do with this little nook in my daughters room — Turns out it is the perfect space for Barbie storage using these bins and boxes from Ikea!
Seeing the transformation of these spaces has been a full-circle moment for me. What began as a goal to get our home in order before welcoming a new puppy has turned into a life-enhancing journey. Now, our home feels more functional, welcoming, and aligned with how we want to live.
